Description
This rare oval white marble mantel clock is adorned with high-quality bronze and ormolu mounts. The base houses a French 8-day, twin-barrel movement featuring silk suspension and count wheel strike on a bell.
The ormolu dial, decorated with blue and white enamel Roman numerals, is framed in a rope border and surrounded by naval motifs and a coronet. Putti with double fish-tails and long shell horns embellish both sides of the clock.
At the top, a detailed bronze sculpture shows the dying Admiral Nelson in the arms of two sailors — a moving tribute to British naval history. The clock is complete with pendulum and key and is stamped “René à Paris” on the backplate.
